Kaduna-Abuja Train Incident Injures Passengers, No Fatalities

Several passengers were injured on Monday morning after a train operating on the Kaduna-Abuja rail corridor experienced an incident that forced the service to halt midway.

The train, travelling from Kaduna to Abuja, failed to reach its destination as scheduled, disrupting operations along one of Nigeria’s busiest rail lines.

Passengers said the incident occurred suddenly, causing panic inside the coaches as the train came to an abrupt stop.

Several passengers reported hearing a loud bang before the train jolted violently, throwing occupants from their seats and creating confusion inside the carriages.

Eyewitnesses indicated that the train collided with another along the corridor, prompting an immediate suspension of rail services while authorities assessed the situation.

Kayode Opeifa explained that the incident, which occurred at about 10:30 a.m., involved a rear locomotive making contact with the passenger coach immediately behind it due to a coupling issue.

He confirmed that injured passengers were promptly attended to and transported to nearby medical facilities for treatment, with no fatalities reported.

Footage from the scene showed visible dents on the derailed carriages, highlighting the force of the impact.

The Nigeria Railway Corporation has returned passengers to Idu Train Station for medical care and has launched a full investigation to determine the cause of the incident.

Authorities have urged commuters to remain calm as the inquiry continues and assured the public that safety measures along the corridor are being reviewed.
