Abia Official Rebukes Sowore Over Otti Criticism

The Director-General of the Abia State Strategic Communications Bureau, Onyebuchi Ememanka, has criticized remarks by human rights activist Omoyele Sowore describing Alex Otti as “overrated.”

Sowore had stated in a circulating video that what he observed in Aba during his participation in a protest in support of Nnamdi Kanu reflected only “half-transformation” of the city, contrary to claims of significant development by supporters of the governor.

Reacting to the comment, Ememanka said Sowore’s assessment was unfair and based on a brief visit to the commercial city. He accused the activist of making conclusions without adequate knowledge of developments in the state.

“How can Sowore spend less than 24 hours in Aba and know Aba more than those who live here?” Ememanka said.

He argued that residents of Aba widely appreciate the governor’s efforts, adding that the activist would have received stronger reactions from locals if he had made similar remarks during his stay in the city.

Ememanka maintained that the state government’s development initiatives in Aba remain evident to residents and should not be dismissed based on short-term observations.

The exchange reflects ongoing political debate over the pace and impact of infrastructure and governance reforms under the current administration in Abia State.
