
The remains of Hajiya Umma El-Rufai, mother of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, have arrived in Abuja ahead of her burial scheduled for Sunday.
Hajiya Umma El-Rufai died in Cairo, Egypt, on Friday, March 27, 2026, after a brief illness.
Her grandson, Mohammed Bello El-Rufai, who represents Kaduna North Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, confirmed the arrival of the body in a statement shared on Sunday. “This is to notify the general public that the remains of our grandmother, Hajiya Umma El-Rufai, have safely landed in Abuja,” he said.
He added that the Janazah prayer would be held at the National Mosque Abuja at 1:00 p.m., after which she would be laid to rest at Gudu Cemetery.
Since news of her death broke, condolence visits have continued at the El-Rufai family residence, with several prominent political figures paying their respects.
Among those who visited were the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Nentawe Yilwatda; Katsina State Governor Dikko Umar Radda; former Vice President Atiku Abubakar; former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi; former Attorney-General of the Federation Abubakar Malami; and Senator Aminu Waziri Tambuwal.
