Priest Urges Christians to Reflect on Palm Sunday Meaning

The Parish Priest of Holy Family Catholic Church, Rev. Fr. Idaka Osbert, has urged Christians to reflect deeply on the spiritual significance of Palm Sunday, describing it as a reminder of Christ’s mission of peace, humility and redemption rather than a mere ceremonial observance.

Delivering his message in Ilorin, the cleric said the triumphal entry of Jesus Christ into Jerusalem symbolised kingship rooted in service and humility, noting that Christ’s choice to ride on a donkey reflected a leadership model different from worldly power and authority.

He explained that although the crowd welcomed Jesus with palm branches and praises, He remained focused on His divine purpose, urging Christians to stay committed to their faith regardless of changing public attitudes or circumstances.

Rev. Fr. Osbert also challenged worshippers to move beyond outward expressions of faith and pursue genuine spiritual transformation, stressing that true discipleship requires loyalty and perseverance, especially during periods of trials and contradictions.

He reminded the faithful that the same crowd that celebrated Jesus later called for His crucifixion, describing the contrast as a lesson on the importance of sincerity and steadfastness in Christian living.

The priest further encouraged Christians to prepare meaningfully for Holy Week through repentance, forgiveness and acts of charity, urging them to reflect the values of Christ in their daily lives.

He prayed that the season would inspire believers to become instruments of peace and hope in their communities and across the country.
