Tinubu Launches Support Fund for Nigerian Armed Forces

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced the creation of a dedicated support fund for Nigeria’s Armed Forces, aimed at assisting wounded personnel and the families of fallen soldiers.

The announcement was made on Sunday, during the President’s 74th birthday commemoration, as a gesture to honour the courage and sacrifice of the nation’s military.

President Tinubu directed the Accountant-General of the Federation to set up a special account for the fund, which will provide targeted support to injured service members, as well as widows, widowers, and children of those who lost their lives in service.

As a personal commitment, the President pledged to contribute all his salaries since assuming office as initial seed funding for the initiative.

He also called on state governors, members of the National Assembly, the private sector, and well-wishers to support the fund, promising that detailed information on its operation will be shared in due course.

“The initiative reflects a solemn national obligation to care for those who risk their lives and the families who bear their sacrifice,” President Tinubu said, noting that the fund complements existing military insurance programmes.

The President emphasised that supporting armed forces members and their families is not charity, but a duty owed by the nation.

He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to enhancing the welfare of military personnel, ensuring their service is met with dignity, care, and sustained support.

The initiative marks a key step in providing financial assistance and recognition to Nigeria’s service members and the families of those who have fallen in the line of duty.
