Operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) have arrested a 25-year-old woman, Nafisa Usman, over alleged involvement in interstate ammunition trafficking, recovering 200 rounds of ammunition during the operation.
The suspect was apprehended at a major motor park in Kano after she allegedly purchased the ammunition in Lafia for delivery to Kankara.
According to the DSS, Usman, who is from Zango village in Kankara Local Government Area of Katsina State, was intercepted during a security operation following intelligence reports.
Security sources said the suspect allegedly confessed that the consignment was transported from Lafia to Unguwa Uku motor park in Kano for onward delivery to individuals believed to be operating in the Kankara forest.
She reportedly told investigators that she had been involved in the trade for about two months and claimed that a man identified as “Teso,” whom she alleged worked with a soldier in Lafia, supplied the ammunition to her.
Usman was also quoted as alleging that she delivered consignments to a suspected bandit identified as Mallam Haruna, said to be active in the Kankara forest, after being introduced to him by a Kano-based livestock trader named Sulaiman.
She further claimed that she handled transactions worth about N5 million involving ammunition supplies to Haruna and others identified as Buba and Abu, who were also alleged to be operating in the forest area.
Security authorities said investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend other suspects linked to the alleged trafficking network.
