Police Aid Mentally Ill Woman During Childbirth in FCT

Officers of the Federal Capital Territory Police Command have assisted a mentally unstable woman to safely deliver a baby during a patrol operation in Kwali Area Council, according to police authorities.

The incident occurred in the early hours of April 3, 2026, around Kwaita village, where officers of the Rapid Response Squad on routine surveillance ahead of the Easter celebrations reportedly heard distress cries from the roadside and moved to investigate.

The officers found the woman in labour and immediately alerted the Gender Unit at the Kwali Division for support.

Confirming the development, Police Public Relations Officer Josephine Adeh said the Officer-in-Charge of the division’s Gender Unit quickly mobilised with her team to the scene after receiving the report at about 12:30 a.m.

The officers assisted the woman through the delivery and ensured both mother and child were safe, the command said.

Social media commentator VeryDarkMan, who shared details of the incident on Instagram, commended the officers for their response and humanitarian conduct.

He also pledged to sponsor the child’s education from primary school through university, describing the officers’ intervention as commendable.
