Victor Osimhen made his return from injury, but Galatasaray S.K. were eliminated from the Turkish Cup after a 2–0 quarter-final defeat to Gençlerbirliği S.K. on home soil.
The Nigerian striker, who had been sidelined for several weeks with an arm injury, came off the bench late in the match but could not prevent the defending champions from exiting the competition.
Osimhen had resumed full training ahead of the fixture and was introduced in the 78th minute in place of Renato Nhaga as he continued his gradual return to match fitness after missing four games.
Gençlerbirliği broke the deadlock early in the second half when Firatcan Uzum reacted quickest to a loose ball inside the penalty area to score in the 51st minute.
Galatasaray pressed for an equaliser, with Ahmed Kutucu denied from close range and Wilfried Singo seeing an effort ruled out for offside as the hosts struggled to convert their chances.
The visitors sealed victory in the 83rd minute through Adama Traore, who finished from close range after reacting to a rebound, effectively ending Galatasaray’s hopes of a comeback.
Despite several attacking substitutions by coach Okan Buruk, including the introduction of Osimhen, Galatasaray were unable to find a breakthrough as Gençlerbirliği secured a semi-final place.
The defeat ended Galatasaray’s 10-match unbeaten run in the competition and brought their title defence to an end.
Attention now shifts to a crucial league clash against rivals Fenerbahçe S.K. on Sunday, where Osimhen is expected to play a bigger role as Galatasaray continue their push in the Turkish Super Lig title race.
