Two persons sustained gunshot injuries on Monday night when police and local hunters foiled a suspected kidnap attempt in the old Kara area of Bodija, in Ibadan North Local Government Area.
The incident, which occurred at about 7:50 p.m. on April 21, 2026, was confirmed in a statement issued on Thursday by the Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Ayanlade.
According to the police, armed men numbering about four stormed a Point of Sale (POS) outlet in the area and opened fire, apparently in an attempt to abduct victims.
A distress call from a resident alerted security operatives, who quickly mobilised to the scene and engaged the attackers. The swift response, supported by local hunters, disrupted the operation and forced the suspects to flee.
Ayanlade said two individuals were hit during the exchange of gunfire but were rescued and taken to a medical facility, where they are currently receiving treatment.
He added that security personnel have launched bush-combing operations in the area to track down the fleeing suspects.
The police also confirmed that additional personnel have been deployed to vulnerable locations across the state on the directive of the Commissioner of Police to prevent further attacks.
The latest incident comes just days after a separate violent attack along the Ijebu-Ode axis in Oluyole Local Government Area, where a victim identified as Dasola was killed, underscoring rising concerns over insecurity in parts of the state.
The police command reiterated its commitment to safeguarding lives and property, while urging residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious movements as investigations continue.
