Osun Govt Defends Spending, Dismisses Mismanagement Claims

The administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke has defended its handling of public finances, insisting that state resources are being managed transparently and in line with due process.

The clarification was made by the governor’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, during an interview on Westernspring Television in Osogbo, which was later shared on the state’s official X account on Tuesday.

Rasheed dismissed allegations from opposition figures accusing the government of financial mismanagement, describing the claims as false and politically motivated.

He said the administration operates strictly within procurement laws and ensures that all projects are executed based on value-for-money principles.

According to him, ongoing infrastructure projects across Osun State are visible and directly benefiting residents, particularly in roads, bridges, schools, and healthcare facilities.

The spokesperson specifically rejected claims that the government spent ₦92 billion on feeding, describing the allegation as “baseless” and misleading.

He argued that public spending is distributed across multiple sectors and agencies, making it inaccurate to isolate figures and attribute them to a single item.

Rasheed also defended the administration’s use of local contractors and professionals, saying the policy is aimed at strengthening local capacity and stimulating the state’s economy.

He maintained that ongoing projects meet engineering standards and reflect what he described as improved infrastructure delivery across the state.

The government listed key areas of investment to include education, agriculture, water infrastructure, pensions, staff welfare, and empowerment programmes.

Rasheed also accused opposition groups of attempting to frustrate governance through interference in local government finances, though he provided no specific details.

He added that despite political criticisms, the administration remains focused on delivering projects and improving living conditions across Osun State.
