The Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII) has cautioned politicians in Oyo State against actions and statements it described as disrespectful to the revered stool of the Olubadan of Ibadanland.
The warning was issued on Monday by the council’s President-General, Ajeniyi Ajewole, in a statement released in Ibadan through its Publicity Secretary, Kola Olomide.
Ajewole said recent conduct by some political actors in the state had crossed acceptable limits and threatened the dignity of traditional institutions in Ibadanland.
He stressed that the Olubadan stool remains sacred and must be treated with utmost respect, warning that any attempt to denigrate the institution would attract serious consequences.
“The stool is sacred to the people of Ibadanland and must be treated with the highest respect at all times,” the council said.
The CCII also described the Olubadan as a unifying figure for all indigenes and residents, regardless of political affiliation, urging politicians to conduct themselves with decorum and restraint.
It further warned against turning the traditional institution into a political tool, insisting that the palace must remain neutral and above partisan interests.
The council expressed concern over incidents of abusive rhetoric, including the use of curses among political actors, describing such behaviour as irresponsible and unacceptable.
Ajewole called for maturity in political engagement, urging stakeholders to prioritise peace, unity, and respect for cultural heritage.
The CCII reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the sanctity of the Olubadan stool and maintaining harmony in the state’s political environment.
