FC Barcelona has announced the death of the father of head coach Hansi Flick ahead of Sunday’s El Clasico clash against Real Madrid.
In a statement released on Sunday, Barcelona expressed support for the German coach and his family during the difficult period.
“Barcelona and the entire Blaugrana family wish to convey our affection to Hansi Flick over the passing of his father,” the club said.
“We share his pain and stand with him during this very difficult time for him and his family.”
Flick, 61, is close to leading Barcelona to consecutive La Liga titles in his time at the club.
Barcelona currently hold an 11-point lead over Real Madrid with four matches remaining and can secure the league title if they avoid defeat in Sunday’s El Clasico at Camp Nou.
The Catalan side are also chasing several records as the season nears its conclusion.
Victory in their remaining four league games would see Barcelona equal the all-time La Liga record of 100 points.
A win over Madrid followed by victory against Real Betis next weekend would also make Barcelona the first team to win every home game in a 38-match La Liga season.
The Clasico comes amid growing pressure on Real Madrid, who are set to finish the season without a major trophy for only the fifth time this century.
