Suspected Lakurawa terrorists have killed two officers of the Nigeria Customs Service in an early morning attack on a checkpoint in Gendene community, Bagudu Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
The attack occurred around 3:00 a.m. on Wednesday when armed men reportedly stormed the duty post and opened fire on the officers.
A resident, Bello Shata, said one of the victims, a senior officer, was allegedly burnt after the attackers set fire to the area where he was sleeping during the raid.
Sources also said the assailants destroyed an operational vehicle belonging to the Customs team during the attack.
Two residents of the community, a man and a woman, were also reportedly injured by gunfire and are currently receiving treatment at a medical facility, though its location has not been disclosed.
Security authorities have yet to release full details of the incident.
The spokesperson of the Kebbi State Police Command, SP Bashir Usman, said the command would issue an official statement once full information on the attack is compiled.
“We will issue a statement once we get the full report,” he said.
The attack adds to growing security concerns in parts of Kebbi State, where armed groups have carried out repeated assaults on security personnel and rural communities in recent months.
