Bandits Raid Kwara Emir’s Palace, Abduct 10 Residents

The Kwara State Police Command has confirmed an early-morning attack by suspected bandits on the Yashikira Police Divisional Headquarters and the palace of the Emir of Yashikira in Kaiama Local Government Area of the state.

The incident occurred around 2:00 a.m. on May 25, 2026, according to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi.

During the coordinated attack, the assailants reportedly set part of the Emir’s palace on fire and abducted 10 residents.

The police said operatives on duty successfully repelled the attack on the divisional police headquarters, preventing further damage at the facility.

Following the incident, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ojo Adekimi, ordered a joint security operation involving police operatives, forest guards and local vigilante groups to rescue the abducted victims and track down the attackers.

He described the assault as a direct threat to public peace and vowed a sustained manhunt for those responsible. “These criminals have declared war against peace-loving citizens, and we are fully prepared to hunt them down relentlessly,” he said.
