Supreme Court Launches E-Filing, Ends Manual Case Filing

Nigeria’s judiciary has officially adopted electronic case filing, marking the end of manual filing at the country’s courts as part of efforts to improve the speed and efficiency of justice delivery.

Announcing the development at the Supreme Court on Wednesday, Chief Justice of Nigeria, Kudirat Tomori Kekere-Ekun, unveiled the Nigerian Case Management System (NCMS), saying the electronic platform takes immediate effect at the apex court.

Justice Kekere-Ekun said the move aligns Nigeria’s judiciary with global best practices, noting that modern justice systems increasingly rely on technology to improve case management, expand access to justice, preserve court records and ensure the timely resolution of disputes.

“The administration of justice in the twenty-first century demands more than the faithful application of legal principles,” she said. “It requires judicial institutions that are efficient, accessible, transparent, accountable and responsive to the needs of court users.”

She added that the launch of the NCMS also coincides with the introduction of the Supreme Court (Mandatory Upload of Electronic Copies of Processes, Records of Appeal and Other Matters) Practice Directions, 2026, aimed at strengthening digital court operations.

Earlier, the Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court, Kabiru Akanbi, said the apex court will now operate a digital registry and urged litigants, lawyers and other court users to comply with the new electronic filing system.
