Nine months after the abduction of Niger State Independent Electoral Commission (NSIEC) Permanent Commissioner, Ahmed Mohammed, his kidnappers have reportedly demanded an additional N300 million ransom for his release.
The fresh demand comes despite the victim’s family reportedly paying N40 million to the abductors in an effort to secure his freedom.
Ahmed was kidnapped on September 29, 2025, along the Mokwa–Ibbi Road in Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State while travelling to Minna on an official assignment ahead of the November 1, 2025 local government elections.
According to Daily Trust, a family member, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the kidnappers contacted the family again on Monday to ask whether they were prepared to meet the new ransom demand.
The source said the family informed the abductors that it could not raise the additional N300 million.
“They call almost every day. It was only yesterday (Tuesday) that they did not call. They requested an additional N300 million. We are appealing to the Niger State Government to come to our aid and secure his release,” the family member said.
The family also appealed to the Niger State Government to intervene, stressing that Ahmed was abducted while carrying out official duties for the state government.
