Troops of the Joint Task Force North East, Operation HADIN KAI, have repelled multiple coordinated infiltration attempts by suspected ISWAP terrorists across parts of Borno State.
In a statement issued on Friday, the Acting Military Information Officer, Captain Mohammed Goni, said the attacks occurred between 12:20 a.m. and 2:30 a.m., with the insurgents attempting to infiltrate Muna Garage, Shuwari Village and the Ajilari Cross axis to gain access to Maiduguri metropolis.
According to the military, the terrorists were detected early through existing surveillance and warning systems, allowing troops to engage them from multiple directions with sustained firepower and prevent the incursions.
The statement added that troops also foiled separate infiltration attempts at Miringa and Dutsen Kura in Buratai during the same operation.
During the pursuit of the fleeing insurgents at Miringa, a Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicle triggered an improvised explosive device (IED). The military said no personnel were injured and the situation remained under control.
“Overwhelmed by the troops’ speedy tactical manoeuvre, the terrorists were forced to abandon their mission and retreat in confusion across all axes,” the statement said.
Operation HADIN KAI said troops are conducting clearance and exploitation operations to track down the fleeing terrorists, consolidate operational gains and prevent further threats to nearby communities.
The military reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining offensive operations against terrorist groups in the North-East and urged residents to remain vigilant and continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies.
