At least one person is feared trapped after a two-storey building under construction collapsed on Sultan Road in Kano metropolis on Friday morning.
The incident occurred at about 9 a.m., with emergency responders rescuing three people from the rubble while continuing efforts to reach a fourth victim believed to be trapped beneath the debris.
Eyewitnesses said construction workers noticed signs that the building was becoming unstable while working on the upper floor and quickly fled the site before it collapsed.
However, four people, including a security guard and a commercial tricycle (Keke Napep) rider, were reportedly caught in the collapse.
A construction worker, Shu’aibu Yaro, said the site’s engineer noticed warning signs shortly before the incident and instructed workers to evacuate.
“The engineer noticed signs that the building was about to collapse, so the workers immediately ran for safety,” Yaro said.
He added that three victims, including the security guard and one of his colleagues, were rescued with injuries and taken to Sir Muhammadu Sanusi Specialist Hospital in Kano for treatment.
Rescue operations were still ongoing at the time of filing this report as emergency workers searched for the remaining victim believed to be trapped beneath the collapsed structure.
