As Nigeria marks Democracy Day 2025, the senator representing Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, has called for a redefinition of democracy—one that goes beyond the periodic exercise of voting to deliver concrete development, uphold justice, and protect the dignity of all citizens.
Reflecting on the significance of June 12, Senator Natasha paid tribute to the late Chief Moshood Abiola and all Nigerians who sacrificed for democratic governance. She described the day as a solemn reminder of the nation’s resilience and a call to action for leaders and citizens to recommit to the ideals of justice, equity, and inclusion.
“As a legislator and proud daughter of the nation, I am deeply conscious of the responsibilities democracy places on all of us,” Senator Natasha said. “We must ensure it works for every Nigerian, regardless of tribe, religion, gender, or class.”
