Argentina captain Lionel Messi has overtaken Spain’s Lamine Yamal to become the player with the most successful dribbles at the ongoing FIFA World Cup.
The 39-year-old reached the milestone during Argentina’s 2-1 comeback victory over England in Wednesday’s semi-final. Messi completed nine successful dribbles and provided two assists as Enzo Fernandez and Lautaro Martinez scored to send the defending champions into the final.
According to official FIFA World Cup statistics, Messi now leads the tournament with 24 successful dribbles, moving ahead of Yamal, who has recorded 22.
Brazil’s Vinicius Junior sits third on the list with 16 successful dribbles, followed by Germany’s Jamal Musiala and France’s Michael Olise, who have 15 each.
Algeria’s Ibrahim Maza and France captain Kylian Mbappe have registered 14 successful dribbles apiece, while England’s Jude Bellingham and Paraguay’s Julio Enciso have each recorded 13.
