The Kwara State Government has distributed nutritional and educational support items to orphans and vulnerable children in Gwanara community, Baruten Local Government Area, as part of its commitment to child welfare.

Speaking during the distribution exercise on Monday, the Commissioner for Social Development, Chief (Mrs) Opeyemi Oluwakemi Afolashade, said the initiative reflects Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s resolve to ensure that no child is neglected in the state.

Represented by the Deputy Director in the Child Development Directorate, Hajia Rekiat Bello, the commissioner said the support was designed to meet the basic needs of the beneficiaries and encourage their continued education.

Items distributed included foodstuffs such as rice, beans, garri, sugar, palm oil and vegetable oil, as well as school uniforms, exercise books, sandals, socks, school bags, writing materials and PTA levies.

Earlier, at the palace of the Emir of Gwanara, Alhaji Sabi Idris, the Kotokotogi II, the commissioner commended the traditional ruler for his role in promoting peace and harmony in the community and appreciated his hospitality.

The Chairman of the Gwanara Parents-Teachers Association, Alhaji Musa Aliyu, thanked the state government and the ministry for the support, describing it as timely and beneficial to the children’s academic progress.
