The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control has sealed 18 warehouses in Bida, Niger State, after discovering large quantities of expired food and beverage products.
According to a statement by the agency’s Resident Media Consultant, Mr. Olusayo Akintola, the warehouses were located around the Ndazabo White House along Minna Road, behind the Bida Modern Market.
The facilities were shut down following an operation by NAFDAC’s Investigation and Enforcement team, which acted on credible intelligence.
Recovered items during the raid included expired non-alcoholic beverages, dairy milk, candies, bottled water, and pasta valued at about N100 million.
Akintola disclosed that some of the products had already been packaged for distribution, including 80,000 packets of expired drinks, 5,000 packets of dairy milk, 16,000 packets of bottled water, and 28 cartons of pasta.
Managers of the affected warehouses were arrested for interrogation as part of the ongoing investigation.
Preliminary findings linked the facilities to a company identified as BY Ventures, prompting NAFDAC officials to extend their operation to supermarkets owned by the firm in Minna.
Additional expired products and counterfeit Goya oil were allegedly found at the supermarkets, which were subsequently sealed.
The Managing Director of the company, Alhaji Yusuf Nadabo, was invited for questioning and reportedly admitted ownership of the expired products.
NAFDAC said investigations are ongoing and that appropriate regulatory sanctions will be imposed upon completion of the exercise.
