Suspected Lakurawa bandits have attacked a cattle settlement on the outskirts of Tangaza along the Nigeria–Niger border in Sokoto State, killing one person and injuring another.

Security analyst Zagazola Makama disclosed the incident in a post on X, stating that the attack occurred around 9:15 p.m. on February 20. Armed assailants reportedly stormed the area and opened fire on residents.

Troops from the Army’s Forward Operating Base and other security agencies were deployed to the scene shortly after the attack.

Security sources confirmed that a 30-year-old man, Yahaya Al-Hassan, was shot dead, while Bello Muhammad sustained a gunshot wound to his left leg.

The attackers allegedly rustled an unspecified number of livestock before fleeing into a nearby forest.

Both victims were evacuated to the General Hospital in Tangaza, where the deceased was deposited for autopsy and the injured victim is receiving treatment.

A security source said efforts are ongoing to track down the assailants and recover the stolen animals. Joint patrols have also been intensified in the area to reassure residents and prevent further attacks.
