The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has alleged a renewed attempt by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to destabilise its leadership amid ongoing political realignments within the opposition party.
In a statement posted on X, ADC National Publicity Secretary Bolaji Abdullahi claimed that plans were underway to stage a protest in Abuja aimed at influencing internal disputes within the party and ongoing engagements with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Abdullahi alleged that the move followed what he described as an earlier failed attempt by APC-linked actors to pressure INEC into taking what he called “illegal actions” against the ADC after the reported defection of Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso to the party.
“After meeting a brick wall with INEC, they have now changed tactics, but the objectives remain the same,” he said.
He further claimed that a protest scheduled for April 2 in Abuja was being sponsored by a minister, with participants allegedly posing as aggrieved party members calling for the removal of David Mark from a leadership position within the party.
According to Abdullahi, the demonstration was intended to mount public pressure on INEC to recognise an individual he said had already resigned and been expelled from the ADC.
Describing the development as part of a broader political strategy, the spokesperson alleged that there were efforts to interfere with the party’s leadership structure. He said the ADC would remain law-abiding while resisting any attempt to undermine its internal processes through legal channels.
Abdullahi also called on Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intervene if those allegedly involved were acting without his approval, urging the President to rein in those responsible.
There has been no official response from the APC or the Federal Government to the allegations as of the time of filing this report.
