UK-Based Nigerians Back Tinubu’s Procurement Reforms

Some Nigerians living in the United Kingdom have commended the administration of President Bola Tinubu for ongoing reforms in Nigeria’s public procurement sector, describing them as beneficial to both local and diaspora investors.

The group, operating under the Nigeria Enterprise Community in the UK, said the reforms have improved transparency, accessibility, and competitiveness in the country’s procurement system, making it easier for Nigerians abroad to participate in government contracting processes.

In a statement released on Friday, the community’s president, Christana Ayodele, said the changes were encouraging greater foreign investor confidence and participation in Nigeria’s economy.

“We have observed significant improvements in transparency, accessibility, and competitiveness within Nigeria’s procurement system,” the statement said, adding that the reforms are gradually aligning the system with international best practices.

The group also noted that Nigeria’s procurement sector is now ranked among the top 15 globally, describing the development as a milestone capable of attracting foreign investment and encouraging stronger engagement from Nigerians in the diaspora.

According to the statement, the reforms are reducing reliance on personal connections in procurement processes and promoting a more open, merit-based system.

The diaspora group further praised the President’s approach to institutional reforms, particularly his appointment of experienced officials to key agencies to strengthen governance and service delivery.

It also congratulated the Director-General of the Bureau of Public Procurement, Adebowale Adedokun, on his recognition as Public Sector Reformer of the Year by Triangle International Magazine, describing the award as a positive international acknowledgement of Nigeria’s reform efforts.

The group pledged continued support for initiatives aimed at promoting transparency, accountability, and inclusive economic growth in the country.
