Fayose Reiterates Claim of Plot Against Olubadan

Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has reiterated his allegation that Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, is plotting to remove the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, despite earlier denials from the state government and the palace.

In a post on his official X account on Tuesday, Fayose insisted that recent developments in Oyo politics were part of a broader plan targeting the traditional ruler, alleging that earlier claims against the monarch were being used to justify possible action against him.

He argued that accusations suggesting the Olubadan’s involvement in political matters were part of a calculated attempt to discredit the palace and lay the groundwork for his removal.

Fayose’s renewed comments come amid heightened political tension in the state, following counterclaims by some political actors distancing themselves from alleged impeachment plots against Governor Makinde.

The Chief Whip of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Gbenga Oyekola, publicly denied any involvement in such discussions, saying he was neither consulted nor present at any meeting linked to the alleged plan.

Oyekola stressed his commitment to peace and stability in the state, adding that he remained loyal to the governor and would not participate in any action capable of destabilising Oyo.

Meanwhile, the Oyo State Government has consistently dismissed Fayose’s allegations, describing them as baseless and politically motivated.

The Commissioner for Information, Dotun Oyelade, said the government had “never contemplated, discussed, or planned” any move against the Olubadan, urging the public to disregard what he described as unfounded claims.

The palace has also previously denied any rift between the Olubadan and the state government, saying there was no basis for the rumours of political interference in traditional matters.
