APC Stakeholders Petition Tinubu Over Alleged Party Crisis in Kwara Ahead of 2027

Some stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara State have petitioned President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, alleging internal party challenges they say could weaken the party’s chances ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The petition, dated April 22, 2026, was submitted at the APC national secretariat in Abuja and addressed to the President and other party leaders. It was presented to journalists by Hon. Olosasa Toyin and jointly signed by Comrade Onimasa Hazmat Ganeey and Alhaji Abdulraheem Alabi, who described themselves as concerned party members in the state.

In the document, the group accused Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of pursuing policies they described as unpopular and of allegedly mishandling security challenges, actions they claimed were “de-marketing” the party in the state.

They further alleged that the governor was planning to impose the Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Danladi Yakubu, as his preferred successor in 2027, warning that such a move could trigger internal divisions within the party.

According to the petitioners, attempts by some party leaders to contribute to development initiatives in the state had been frustrated, while dissenting voices within the party were allegedly targeted through legal actions and the involvement of security agencies.

The stakeholders also claimed the governor’s actions had weakened his popularity, particularly in Kwara Central and Kwara South senatorial districts, describing the situation as a potential risk to the party’s electoral prospects in future contests.

Commenting on reported moves to reopen the 2018 Offa robbery case involving former Senate President Bukola Saraki, the group alleged the development could be politically motivated.

They warned that such steps might generate public sympathy for Saraki and benefit the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), potentially affecting the APC’s performance in subsequent elections.

The petitioners therefore urged President Tinubu and the party’s national leadership to intervene, cautioning that unresolved internal disagreements could deepen divisions and weaken the APC’s structure in Kwara State ahead of 2027.
