Kwara Police Deny Alleged Unlawful Detention of Minor

The Kwara State Police Command has denied allegations that it unlawfully detained a minor in Arandun community, Irepodun Local Government Area, describing the claims as misleading and inaccurate.

In a statement issued on Monday by its spokesperson, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, the command said the controversy stemmed from a housebreaking and theft case reported on April 30, 2026.

According to the police, the prime suspect, a 19-year-old male identified as Timothy Aransiola, allegedly fled after the complaint was lodged and was placed on the division’s watchlist.

The command said intelligence later indicated that he was being assisted by his 16-year-old sister, identified as Esther Aransiola, who was suspected of helping him evade arrest.

Police stated that the minor was taken into custody on May 1, 2026, on suspicion of aiding and abetting a suspect to obstruct lawful arrest.

“She was duly cautioned, her statement was taken in line with established procedures, and she was released to her guardian on bond,” the statement said.

The command dismissed viral social media claims suggesting unlawful detention, insisting the narrative was false and capable of misleading the public.

It added that efforts were ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspect and ensure he is brought to justice.

The police also urged members of the public to disregard unverified reports and avoid circulating content that could heighten tension in the community.

Reaffirming its position, the command said it remains committed to due process, protection of citizens’ rights, and transparency in its operations.
