Nuhu Ribadu has met with United States Vice President J.D. Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio in Washington to discuss security cooperation between both countries.
The meeting, held at Vance’s residence, focused on efforts to strengthen collaboration in combating terrorism across West Africa, particularly threats linked to Boko Haram and Islamic State.
Details of the talks were disclosed in a statement shared by Secure Nigeria, a platform that reports on security-related issues.
According to the statement, the discussions highlighted ongoing cooperation between Nigeria and the United States in intelligence sharing, military training and counterterrorism operations.
The statement also expressed appreciation for the support of US President Donald Trump, noting that Nigerian forces were intensifying efforts to dismantle terrorist networks and protect vulnerable communities.
“Africa’s largest democracy isn’t wavering. Nigeria stands as a frontline U.S. partner against ISIS, Boko Haram, and rising terror threats across the Sahel,” the statement said.
It added that both countries remained committed to deepening their partnership in tackling insecurity and stabilising the region.
Neither the Nigerian presidency nor US officials had issued a separate formal statement on the meeting as of Friday.
