The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has advised motorists to avoid speeding, overloading, and other traffic violations as Muslims across Nigeria prepare for the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations.
The warning was issued by the Zonal Commanding Officer of FRSC Zone RS10 Sokoto, Shoba B. Akande, during a meeting with members of the Correspondents’ Chapel in Sokoto.
Akande said the Corps had activated measures to ensure safer travel during the festive period, urging road users to comply with traffic regulations to reduce accidents on major highways.
“The Corps appeals to motorists to avoid speeding, dangerous overtaking, overloading, route violations, and driving under fatigue,” he said.
He also urged passengers to speak up whenever drivers engage in reckless behaviour that could endanger lives.
According to Akande, more than 1,500 personnel, including officers and marshals, have been deployed across major roads and accident-prone areas within the Sokoto zone for the operation.
He added that the personnel would be supported with patrol vehicles, ambulances, and other logistics to improve emergency response and maintain smooth traffic flow during the celebrations.
The FRSC said it had also intensified enforcement against offences linked to road crashes, including reckless driving and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
Akande reaffirmed the Corps’ commitment to protecting lives through strict enforcement and public awareness campaigns, especially during high-travel periods such as Eid-el-Kabir. He added that emergency lines 122 and 112 remain available кругл the clock for motorists requiring assistance.
