Tunisia have dismissed head coach Sabri Lamouchi following the team’s heavy defeat to Sweden in their opening match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Lamouchi becomes the first manager to lose his job during the ongoing tournament after the Carthage Eagles suffered a 5-1 loss, raising concerns over the team’s prospects in the competition.
The Tunisian Football Federation confirmed the decision and announced plans to appoint former national team coach Mondher Kebaier as interim manager.
Football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano also reported the development on X, stating that Kebaier is expected to take charge on a temporary basis as the federation seeks to stabilise the team ahead of its remaining World Cup fixtures.
Lamouchi’s dismissal comes just days after Tunisia’s disappointing start to the tournament, with the federation moving swiftly in an effort to revive the team’s campaign.
Kebaier now faces the task of rebuilding confidence within the squad and improving results as Tunisia look to remain competitive on the world stage.
