BREAKING….. UK Court Acquits Diezani of Bribery Charges

A court in the United Kingdom has acquitted former Nigerian Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke, of all bribery-related charges brought against her.

A jury at Southwark Crown Court in London on Wednesday found Alison-Madueke not guilty on six counts of bribery and conspiracy to commit bribery, according to Reuters.

Alison-Madueke, who served as Nigeria’s petroleum minister from 2010 to 2015 under former President Goodluck Jonathan, had been accused of receiving benefits from oil and gas industry figures in exchange for influence over the award of lucrative contracts.

Prosecutors alleged that she enjoyed “a life of luxury” in London funded by individuals seeking business advantages in Nigeria’s oil sector.

The former minister consistently denied the allegations throughout the trial, maintaining that she neither accepted bribes nor had direct authority over the allocation of government contracts.

After more than 46 hours of deliberation, the jury returned unanimous not-guilty verdicts on all six charges.

The ruling brings an end to a closely watched case that examined allegations of corruption linked to Nigeria’s oil and gas industry during her tenure in office.
