Ilorin Emirate Mourns Death of Emir’s Predecessor’s Widow

The Ilorin Emirate Council has announced the death of Alhaja Alimat Sobaloju Sulu-Gambari, widow of the ninth Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Zulqarnain Gambari Mohammed.

Alhaja Sobaloju Sulu-Gambari died in the early hours of Thursday, August 13, 2026. The Royal Family announced her passing in a statement.

The Emir of Ilorin and Chairman of the Kwara State Council of Chiefs, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, described the deceased as a devout Muslim and a woman known for her humility, virtue and commitment to Islam and humanity.

The Emir said Alhaja Sulu-Gambari was a mother to many and upheld the values of modesty, charity and service throughout her life.

“She was a mother to all. Throughout her life, Alhaja Alimat embodied the values of modesty, charity and service that the Royal dynasty is known for,” the Emir said.

He prayed to Almighty Allah to forgive her shortcomings, accept her good deeds and grant her Al-Jannah Firdaus.

The Emir also prayed for strength and comfort for the Sulu-Gambari Royal Family, her children and other relatives to bear the loss.

The Ilorin Emirate Council urged residents and well-wishers to join the Royal Family in praying for the repose of the deceased’s soul.
