TCN Announces Five-Hour Power Outage in Bida

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced a five-hour power outage in Bida and surrounding communities in Niger State to allow for annual preventive maintenance at its Bida 132/33kV Transmission Substation.

TCN said the exercise will take place on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

In a statement posted on its X handle, the company said its maintenance team will service a 60MVA 132/33kV transformer and associated switchgear at the substation.

The planned outage will affect electricity supply to communities served by the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC).

According to TCN, affected areas include Bida Town, Army Barracks, Agaie, Doko, Baro, Zago, Emi Rani, Bussu, Laugba Goshigi, Lafiyagi Essa, Amgulu, Mansantali, Agaie Town, Low Cost and Masaga, as well as surrounding villages.

TCN said electricity supply would be restored to the affected communities once the maintenance work is completed.

The company apologised to customers in the affected areas for the inconvenience caused by the planned outage.

The exercise is part of TCN’s preventive maintenance programme aimed at improving the reliability and stability of the country’s electricity transmission infrastructure.
