APC Chieftain Blames Osun Defeat on Internal Wrangling

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, Farouq Aliyu, has blamed internal disagreements within the party for its defeat in the Osun State governorship election.

Aliyu said some APC members were unhappy with the party’s candidate and failed to support his campaign, weakening the party’s chances at the polls.

Speaking on Arise Television’s Morning Show on Monday, he said the APC did everything possible to win the election but acknowledged that divisions within the party affected its performance.

“We did everything, everything possible, humanly possible, to win the election,” Aliyu said, adding that the party was still reviewing the factors that led to its defeat.

He said some members were dissatisfied with the choice of candidate and did not work for the party’s success because of their opposition to him.

According to Aliyu, the experience showed the need for the APC to review its candidate-selection process and consider aspirants with wider support among party members.

“There are people who were not happy with our candidate. Some people were happy with the candidate,” he said, describing the disagreement as a major internal challenge.

Aliyu also said the party would study the outcome of the election to understand what went wrong and improve its chances in future contests.

The APC lost the Osun governorship election to the Accord Party, with Governor Ademola Adeleke emerging victorious by a wide margin.
