Popular Nigerian singer David Adeleke, known as Davido, has praised youths in Osun State for defending their votes during the 2026 governorship election, saying their actions renewed hope in Nigeria’s ability to conduct free and fair elections.
Davido spoke on Tuesday at his country home in Ede after his uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke, was re-elected for another four-year term.
He thanked Osun voters for supporting the governor and commended those who stayed through the collation process to protect the integrity of their votes.
“Shout out to Osun youths… you guys gave hope to the whole Nigeria,” Davido said, adding that a different outcome could have further weakened public confidence in free and fair elections.
The singer said Adeleke’s victory should demonstrate to public officials that effective governance can translate into electoral support.
Davido, who chairs the Osun Sports Trust Fund, also outlined plans for youth-focused projects, including the completion of an ongoing stadium, a recreational centre with facilities for football, swimming, tennis, basketball and athletics, and a concert centre.
He said the projects would provide young people with opportunities to develop their talents and help steer them away from crime and other social vices. He also plans to organise a concert featuring emerging Osun artistes after the governor’s inauguration.
Davido acknowledged that violence occurred in parts of the election, alleging that some perpetrators were brought into the state from elsewhere. He called for rehabilitation and greater opportunities for youths facing difficult circumstances.
He also urged political opponents to embrace unity and forgiveness after the closely contested election.
“Forgiving for me is very hard, but it’s something we all have to do for the future of Osun,” he said.
