Workers of the Federal Ministry of Education on Wednesday blocked the entrance to the ministry’s headquarters, preventing Education Minister Tunji Alausa and Acting Permanent Secretary Folake Olatunji-David from accessing their offices.

A video circulating on X showed workers gathered at the entrance as a motorcade reportedly carrying the minister arrived at the premises.

The protesters were heard chanting, “Alausa must go,” as they blocked access to the ministry.

The protest comes amid an ongoing dispute between ministry workers and the Federal Government over the proposed concession of King’s College, Lagos, along with concerns raised by workers’ unions.

The unions have previously called for Alausa’s removal and opposed the reported 35-year concession of the school to its old boys’ association.

Workers have also raised concerns about staff welfare and other administrative matters within the ministry.

The latest action underscores the continuing tensions between the ministry’s management and its workers despite recent engagements aimed at resolving the disputes.
