Ampem Darkoa Coach Questions Edo Queens’ CAF Protest

Ampem Darkoa head coach, Charles Anokye Frimpong, has criticised Edo Queens for challenging the handling of their WAFU B Women’s Champions League final in Cairo, Egypt.

Edo Queens had petitioned the Confederation of African Football (CAF), seeking the annulment of the decision to continue the match.

The Nigerian club raised concerns over the relocation of the fixture from Ouagadougou to Cairo without the required confirmation from WAFU B, as well as what it described as a failure to restore proper sporting conditions.

Edo Queens also alleged that it was prevented from fielding players who had featured in the original match and questioned the decision to accommodate its delegation at a military base instead of a conventional team hotel.

However, Frimpong argued that Edo Queens should have formally protested before the match rather than raising the issues after its conclusion.

Speaking to 3Sports GH, the Ampem Darkoa coach said both teams attended meetings with WAFU organisers before travelling to Egypt and were accommodated at the same military facility, where they also trained and played.

He questioned why Edo Queens did not raise its concerns at the time, adding that the Nigerian club appeared comfortable with the arrangements before the match.

Frimpong also said Edo Queens could have won had the game proceeded into extra time, but maintained that teams must respect the rules and procedures governing football competitions.
