Governors Condemn Niger, Kwara Terror Attacks

The Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) has condemned weekend terrorist attacks in Niger and Kwara states that left several people dead and others abducted.

The forum expressed concern over Saturday night’s assault on the communities of Tunga-Makeri, Konkoso and Pissa in Niger State, where gunmen reportedly killed residents and kidnapped others. It also condoled with the government and people of Kwara State following a separate attack on Woro community in Kaiama Local Government Area.

In a statement signed by NGF Chairman and Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, the forum extended condolences to affected families and prayed for the safe return of those still missing.

“We send our sincerest condolences to all the families who lost their loved ones in these unfortunate terrorist attacks. We acknowledge and identify with the trauma and pain of the survivors,” the statement said.

The NGF commended security forces for their efforts but urged them to intensify operations against terrorists and their collaborators. It expressed confidence in the capacity of security agencies to curb terrorism, banditry and kidnapping nationwide.

Meanwhile, the Kwara State Government said it is analysing a video allegedly released by terrorists showing some individuals taken during the February 3 attack on Woro community.

The Commissioner for Communications, Bolanle Olukoju, said authorities are working to verify the identities of those seen in the footage, noting that conflicting reports have made it difficult to confirm the number of abductees.

“Our priority remains the safe rescue of every affected citizen and ensuring that those responsible are brought to justice,” she said, adding that some initially reported missing have since reunited with their families, while others may have relocated to neighbouring communities, including Wawa and New Bussa in Niger State.

The government said a response committee led by Ahmed Ibn Muhammed is coordinating with security agencies and community leaders to support rescue efforts and displaced residents. It urged the public to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information as investigations continue.
