NAPTIP Rescues Elderly Woman From Domestic Abuse in Abuja

The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has rescued an elderly woman from repeated domestic violence allegedly committed by her son at Gwarinpa Estate, Abuja.

The suspect, a man in his mid-30s, reportedly subjected his mother to ongoing abuse in violation of the Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Act. The case persisted over time before coming to the attention of the agency through concerned members of the public.

Preliminary findings indicate that the victim had previously attempted to escape the abusive environment and report the matter, but the suspect evaded arrest.

Following the latest report, NAPTIP’s Rapid Response Squad was dispatched to the scene, successfully rescuing the victim and taking the suspect into custody.

The agency confirmed that necessary procedures are ongoing as investigations continue to ensure justice for the survivor.

NAPTIP also commended citizens who reported the incident, emphasizing the importance of public vigilance in combating abuse, violence, and exploitation.

The agency urges members of the public to continue speaking out against all forms of domestic violence and to report suspected cases promptly.

Authorities reassured that the survivor is now in a safe environment while the agency works to provide support and legal recourse.

The case highlights the critical role of community involvement in identifying and preventing domestic abuse in Nigerian households.

NAPTIP continues to encourage timely reporting and proactive intervention to safeguard vulnerable individuals across the country.
