The Kano State Government has dismissed claims by former Commissioner for Investment, Commerce and Industry, Shehu Wada Sagagi, describing his comments on Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s recent political move as false and misleading.
In a statement issued Friday by the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, the government rejected Sagagi’s allegation that the governor’s defection was driven by fears of failing to secure a second-term ticket under the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).
The government described the claim as a deliberate attempt to misinform the public and distort the reasons behind the governor’s decision.
According to the statement, the political realignment was instead motivated by the need to promote peace, unity and sustainable development in Kano State.
It added that the move was intended to strengthen collaboration and ensure that the benefits of governance reach residents across the state.
The government also rejected suggestions that the governor was concerned about his political future, insisting that such claims overlook his political support base and record of service delivery.
It reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to its “Kano First” agenda, which focuses on public welfare, infrastructure development, economic growth and social stability.
“We urge the public to disregard the statement as it does not reflect the true state of affairs,” the government said, adding that the administration would remain focused on delivering its mandate despite what it described as baseless allegations.
