The Kano State House of Assembly has withdrawn its notice of impeachment against former Deputy Governor Aminu Abdulsalam following his resignation from office.
The decision was taken during a plenary session presided over by Speaker Jibril Isma’il after the Majority Leader, Lawan Hussaini, moved a motion to discontinue the process.
Speaking to journalists after the sitting, Hussaini said the withdrawal was in line with Order 3, Rule 6A of the Assembly’s rules, noting that Abdulsalam’s voluntary resignation rendered further legislative action unnecessary.
The Assembly had earlier, on March 5, 2026, initiated impeachment proceedings against the former deputy governor over allegations of gross misconduct, abuse of office, and breach of public trust.
The action followed a petition from the executive arm of government accusing Abdulsalam of irregularities during his tenure as Commissioner for Local Government Affairs between 2023 and 2024.
At the time the petition was presented, the Majority Leader said the impeachment process was initiated in accordance with Section 188 of the 1999 Constitution of Nigeria.
