ADC Criticises Tinubu Over Repeated Security Assurances

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has criticised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over what it described as repeated assurances on insecurity that have yet to translate into improved safety across the country.

In a statement posted on Tuesday via his X account, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, said presidential responses to attacks on communities had become predictable and ineffective. He argued that similar statements issued after major security incidents since May 2023 had not produced visible results.

Abdullahi cited several incidents in Plateau, Kwara, Benue, Kebbi, Kaduna, and Borno states where the president condemned attacks and promised action, including statements such as “enough is enough” and assurances that violence would not recur. He said the pattern had continued without significant improvement in security outcomes.

According to him, recent attacks during the Easter period affected communities in Kaduna, Borno, Plateau, and Benue states, resulting in further casualties and destruction. He argued that repeated assurances without measurable progress risk weakening public confidence in the government’s response to insecurity.

“At this point, hearing ‘enough is enough’ is no longer a statement of reassurance,” Abdullahi said, adding that the country required stronger leadership responses to ongoing security challenges.

The ADC spokesperson called for more decisive measures to address persistent violence across parts of the country, stressing that Nigerians expected concrete results from the federal government’s security strategy.
