The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has detained 20 foreign nationals in Kano State following concerns over their entry and activities, the corps confirmed on Tuesday.
According to a statement from the Kano State Command, the suspects were apprehended in the Danbare area of Kumbotso Local Government Area during a security operation prompted by credible intelligence.
The commandant, Mohammed Hassan Agalama, said the group includes nationals from Sudan, Chad, and other neighbouring countries.
“Preliminary investigations indicate that the individuals could not provide valid travel or identification documents, raising concerns over their mode of entry and activities within the state,” the statement read.
Security operatives recovered several items from the suspects, including 10 Android phones, as part of the ongoing investigation.
The NSCDC said the suspects are currently being profiled to determine their purpose in the state and any potential links to unlawful activities. Relevant government agencies have been notified and are collaborating in the investigation.
Authorities emphasized that the operation aligns with existing laws and regulations, ensuring that the suspects’ rights are respected while the investigation continues.
The corps reassured residents of its commitment to safeguarding lives and property, urging the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities.
This action is part of broader security measures in Kano State to monitor foreign nationals and prevent illegal entry or criminal activity.
NSCDC officials stated that additional updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
