Galatasaray’s push for the Turkish Super Lig title has been hit by the absence of striker Victor Osimhen, with recent results highlighting his importance to the team’s campaign.
The Nigerian forward has been sidelined since March 18 after suffering an arm injury in the UEFA Champions League play-off clash against Liverpool.
Since his injury, Galatasaray have managed just one win in three league matches, picking up four points from a possible nine and missing the chance to open a seven-point lead at the top of the table.
The Istanbul club now sit on 68 points, just two ahead of rivals Fenerbahçe on 66, while Trabzonspor remain in contention with 64 points.
Overall this season, Galatasaray have dropped 16 points in the 11 matches Osimhen has missed across all competitions, winning five, drawing two and losing four of those games.
The statistics have intensified scrutiny on the team’s reliance on the 27-year-old striker as the title race tightens.
Coach Okan Buruk has faced growing pressure from supporters to ensure Osimhen’s swift return to the starting lineup as the season enters a decisive phase.
The forward has already resumed non-contact training and could be included in the squad for this weekend’s trip to Gençlerbirliği.
He is also expected to be fully fit for next week’s high-profile derby against Fenerbahçe, a fixture that could prove crucial in the title race.
