The Yobe State chapter of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) has called on prominent governorship aspirant under the All Progressives Congress (APC), Kashim Musa Tumsah, to defect to the party and contest the 2027 governorship election on its platform.
The appeal was made on Tuesday during a press conference in Damaturu, the state capital, by the SDP chairman in the state, Alhaji Abba Bature, who said the decision reflected the collective position of party members and supporters.
Bature said Tumsah stands out among aspirants across political parties in the state due to his consistent contributions to development and public service.
He described him as a “true democrat and development advocate” whose influence and appeal cut across political and social divides in Yobe State.
According to him, residents are seeking leadership that is more transparent, accountable, and focused on delivering tangible development rather than political promises.
“For too long, our people have hoped for leadership that truly listens, serves, and delivers. The time has come for a new direction built on accountability and real development,” Bature said.
He added that the party’s invitation to Tumsah was not based on personal ambition but on what he described as the need for inclusive governance and progress in the state.
“We are here to restore the dignity of leadership and put the people of Yobe first,” he said, urging the APC aspirant to join what he called a “movement for change.”
The SDP expressed confidence that Tumsah would consider the invitation positively, noting growing political momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Tumsah, who is currently seeking the APC governorship ticket, is regarded as a strong grassroots contender with support across different political groups in the state.
