Osun APC Candidate Oyebamiji Seeks Ooni’s Blessings

The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, Bola Oyebamiji, has visited the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, to seek royal blessings ahead of the August 15, 2026 governorship election.

During the visit on Monday, Oyebamiji said his ambition was driven by a commitment to service, accountability, and the development of Osun State, pledging not to betray public trust if elected.

He told the monarch that his campaign would be guided by respect for traditional institutions and a focus on improving governance across the state.

“I will not betray the trust of the people and will work tirelessly for the progress of Ife and Osun State at large,” he said.

Oyebamiji also expressed appreciation for the Ooni’s efforts in promoting Yoruba unity and preserving cultural heritage, describing Ile-Ife as a central symbol of history and tradition.

He said his visit followed advice from President Bola Tinubu, who reportedly encouraged him to seek traditional blessings before commencing his campaign activities.

“I informed Mr. President of my intention to visit your palace, and he strongly advised me to do so,” he said.

In his response, the Ooni of Ife commended Oyebamiji for showing respect to traditional institutions, describing humility as an important quality for leadership.

The monarch, however, urged politicians to promote unity and avoid actions that could deepen political divisions, stressing that traditional rulers remain non-partisan and must serve all communities equally.

“An Oba belongs to all and must remain above politics. Unity is key,” the Ooni said, adding that leaders must justify the blessings they receive through good governance.

Oyebamiji was accompanied by his running mate, Kayode Adereti, Osun APC chairman Tajudeen Lawal, and other party leaders.

The delegation was received at the palace by the Ooni and other traditional rulers, including the Alapomu of Apomu, Oba Kayode Adenekan Afolabi, who offered prayers for a peaceful election season.
