The Nigeria Police Force is investigating Omowumi Isaac, the Commissioner for Finance in Ondo State, over allegations of criminal conspiracy, attempted murder, threat to life, assault and causing grievous bodily harm.
Security sources also alleged that Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa is mounting pressure on police authorities to halt further questioning of the commissioner, despite the probe not being related to state financial matters.
According to a formal letter dated April 7, 2026, issued by the Inspector-General of Police Monitoring Unit, Isaac was directed to report to the Force Headquarters in Abuja on April 15 to respond to the allegations contained in a petition where her name reportedly “featured prominently.”
The invitation, signed by Assistant Commissioner of Police Mayamba Magomya Aliya on behalf of the Head of the IGP Monitoring Unit, stated that the interrogation was intended to clarify issues surrounding the case.
“This office is investigating a case of criminal conspiracy, attempted murder, threat to life, assault and causing grievous bodily harm reported to the Inspector-General of Police in which your name featured prominently,” the letter stated.
Police said the summons was issued pursuant to Section 53(2)(a) of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA) 2015, which empowers investigators to invite individuals linked to ongoing criminal inquiries.
Sources further claimed the governor’s opposition to the questioning may be based on concerns that the invitation relates to alleged financial misconduct, although the police investigation reportedly centres on criminal allegations unrelated to the state’s finances.
Details surrounding the alleged attempted murder and assault remain unclear, but police said the petition was considered serious enough to warrant direct attention from the IGP Monitoring Unit.
As of the time of filing this report, the Ondo State Government and the Ministry of Finance had not issued an official response, and it remained uncertain whether the commissioner would honour the police invitation or pursue legal steps to challenge it.
