Former Bauchi State governor and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar, has declared his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election, pledging to deliver “greater focus, efficiency and impact” if given another mandate.
Abubakar made the announcement after picking the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship nomination form, stating that his decision was driven by widespread calls for his return rather than personal ambition.
Speaking in Abuja during the presentation of the form by the MA Abubakar Strategic Committee, he said his renewed aspiration reflects a collective desire to consolidate past achievements and accelerate development in Bauchi State.
“This ambition is not personal — it is a collective aspiration. It is driven by the widespread calls and support I have received from across the state and beyond,” he said.
Abubakar formally declared his readiness to contest, noting that his previous experience as governor from 2015 to 2019 has better prepared him for improved governance if elected again.
He said his earlier administration inherited significant challenges, including salary arrears, debt burdens, and structural inefficiencies, but claimed that his government stabilised the state’s finances and improved service delivery.
The former governor highlighted reforms such as clearing salary backlogs, removing ghost workers from the payroll, recovering government assets, and establishing a tribunal to address corruption-related issues.
On infrastructure, he said his administration executed road projects across several local government areas, including Bauchi metropolis, Azare, Misau, Toro, Darazo, and Jama’are, with contracts valued at over ₦20.4 billion.
He also cited investments in water and electricity projects, including rehabilitation works on Gubi Dam and the construction of reservoirs, pumping mains, and boreholes aimed at improving access to potable water.
In education, Abubakar said his government built and renovated classrooms across various levels, trained teachers, supported scholarships, and strengthened institutions such as Abubakar Tatari Ali Polytechnic and Government Girls Secondary School Soro.
He added that his administration prioritised agriculture, health, youth empowerment, and collaboration with the federal government to expand infrastructure and development projects in the state.
Abubakar further claimed that his government left financial reserves at the end of its tenure in 2019 after clearing salary obligations and pensions, describing it as part of efforts to ensure continuity in governance.
He said his return to office would focus on consolidating past gains and delivering more inclusive development if elected in 2027.
