The Kwara State Police Command has condemned the early-morning attack carried out by suspected bandits in Yashikira, Kaiama Local Government Area of the state.
According to the Command, the incident occurred at about 2:00 a.m. on 25 May 2026, when armed attackers launched a coordinated assault on both the Yashikira Police Divisional Headquarters and the palace of the Emir of Yashikira.
The police said part of the Emir’s palace was set on fire during the attack, while 10 residents were abducted and taken to an unknown location. Officers on duty, however, repelled the assault on the police station.
Following the incident, the Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Ojo Adekimi, ordered a joint tactical response involving the police, military, Forest Guards, vigilantes, and other security agencies.
The coordinated operation, according to the Command, is focused on combing nearby forests and suspected hideouts to rescue the abducted victims and apprehend those responsible.
In a statement, the Commissioner described the attack as a criminal act that would not go unchallenged, insisting that the Command remains fully prepared to confront armed groups operating in the state.
“These criminals have declared war against peace-loving citizens, and we are fully prepared to hunt them down relentlessly,” he said, adding that security agencies would deploy all available resources to dismantle their networks and secure the release of the abducted victims.
The Command assured residents of Yashikira and other parts of Kwara State that security presence had been reinforced, with ongoing surveillance and intensified bush-combing operations across vulnerable communities.
